THE GIFT

Every generation thinks their time was the best for music, mostly because of the nostalgia remembered when relating the music to ones youth. Truth is every generation has its good contributions to music. This is because for every generation there have been those who have thought outside the box, refusing to become one of the clones.

When I speak of the clones I'm referring to how most people just follow the trend of what is popular. Be it clothing, style of talking, or tattooing oneself. Most do it what they do simply to fit in. For our own indulgence we'll bring it in turns of music.

By no fault of their own many have fallen victim to the media blitz of repetitive mind control. It's on MTV, VH1, BET, HOT 97, or in the Billboard charts. When you begin to hear and see something over and over it eventually takes over. Just think about it, most people can relate to one thing-cartoons. As kids we all watched the same cartoons. It was repetitive and the only thing for us to watch. MTV has become the Cartoon channel for music. Repetitive and the most available for all to watch. Today's youth is MTV zoned, and unlike before it's world wide. No longer does it take months to let the world know what music they should listen to and buy to fit in, it takes seconds.

It has always been the out of the box thinkers which have propelled the human race to go forward. Be it for the positive or for the negative the out of the boxers make changes happen-music is no exception. Someone had to be the first to scratch a record. Someone had to be the first to sample a beat. It has and will always be a person who thinks out of the box that will innovate music and open the minds of others.

What will you do with your creative soul? The obligation that comes with such a gift can not be taken for granted. For to be able to see out of the box and yet refuse to go beyond is a crime against the very nature of ones existence.

How will you use your gift? How will you contribute? How will you open the box?
